Who is ready for some Daily Fantasy Baseball and my FanDuel picks for Sunday, 8-2-15? I know I am ready for another day of DFS action. Of the lineups I shared yesterday, one did well and should have cashed in most formats while the other fell short.

Today’s slate is filled with top-tier pitching and some ticking time bombs for GPP. It is my kind of day. Earlier this week I wrote a post about using Vegas odds in your DFS research, and encourage you to do the same.

With that, let’s look at what exactly you are looking for when you hunt down the odds. I prefer to use Rotowire for both MLB Daily Lineups and the Vegas odds for the day. The odds will usually show over and under on projected runs scored and then the money lines for projected starters.

So if we were to look at today’s odds, the Rangers/Giants and Blue Jays/Royals games are projected to be the highest scoring affairs. The Jays and Giants are favorites to win.

The St. Louis Cardinals have the most favorable matchup today against the Rockies, so I will be targeting some Cardinals today. Good luck everyone! As always stay tuned to Twitter as well for some more lineup sharing and banter.

FanDuel Picks for Sunday, 8-2-15

Starting Pitcher

Sonny Gray, Oakland Athletics vs Cleveland Indians ($10,300) Vegas: 7 runs, Gray -143

Sonny Gray has been filthy this year and today I like him to get plenty of strikeouts and possibly a win. He is facing off against Trevor Bauer who has been the definition of hot and cold.

Jaime Garcia, St. Louis Cardinals vs Colorado Rockies ($8,100) Vegas: 7.5 Runs, Garcia -180

Vegas Odds really like Garcia’s chances today and so do I. When Garcia is not on the DL, which he is often, he pitches very well. Today I can see St. Louis scoring most of the runs and Garcia coasting to a victory with solid numbers. He will be one of my favorite GPP Plays today and he is cheap.

Catcher

Kyle Schwarber, Chicago Cubs @ Milwaukee Brewers and Kyle Lohse ($2,900)

Schwarber’s red-hot bat will remain in the Cubs lineup is great news and if he keeps producing as he has since his second call-up, his price won’t remain as low.

Catcher is a position I often punt in GPP’s and even cash games. Some cheaper options today are Salvador Perez, Yadier Molina and Alex Avila all at $2,200.

First Base

Jose Abreu, Chicago White Sox vs New York Yankees and Ivan Nova ($4,200)

Abreu had such a slow start that his remarkable 2014 season is in the rearview mirror. Over the last week though, his bat is a murder weapon for baseballs. I don’t see him slowing down today against Ivan Nova.

Lucas Duda, New York Mets vs Washington Nationals and Jordan Zimmerman ($3,100)

Duda has had multi-homer games twice this week, and although I won’t be expecting the same, he faces a right-handed pitcher today and he can make some noise. At this price today I will be using Duda plenty.

Second Base

Brian Dozier, Minnesota Twins vs Seattle Mariners and Hisahsi Iwakuma ($3,700)

If you read my post yesterday you already know I recommended Dozier yesterday, too. His weak performances over the last two games don’t concern me today though. If you don’t trust Dozier, perhaps you should spend up a bit for Rougned Odor against a lefty.

Logan Forsythe, Tampa Bay Rays @ Boston Red Sox and Wade Miley ($3,000)

Forsythe hit a home run last night, and today he gets to face the underwhelming Miley. I love him for a GPP option today.

Third Base

Todd Frazier, Cincinnati Reds vs Pittsburgh Pirates and Charlie Morton ($3,700)

If you went value in a few other positions, Frazier will make a very nice play today in cash and GPP games. He is overdue for a big game and today just could be the one.

Kyle Seager, Seattle Mariners @ Minnesota Twins and Mike Pelfrey ($2,700)

Pelfrey has reverted back to his usual self and Seager is a left-handed bat. Those two things alone make Seager appealing to me. Even though I will be at the game rooting for the Twins, Seager will be in my lineups today.

Shortstop

Carlos Correa, Houston Astros vs Arizona Diamondbacks and Robbie Ray ($3,900)

Correa doesn’t look human right now, and he definitely isn’t playing like a human. Correa has another favorable matchup today at home so if you can afford him, get him in your lineups and ride the wave.

Jhonny Peralta, St. Louis Cardinals vs Colorado Rockies and Yohan Flande ($2,900)

Peralta met his value last night, and like I mentioned earlier, the Cardinals are heavy favorites today. A righty versus lefty matchup here is also in play.

Outfielders

Adam Jones, Baltimore Orioles vs Detroit Tigers and Daniel Norris ($3,400)

Jones had a rough game yesterday, but had back-to-back home runs the games before. I like his matchup against the young lefty today in Norris.

Gregory Polanco, Pittsburgh Pirates @ Cincinnati Reds and Keyvius Sampson ($2,700)

I know you may be thinking, against who? Sampson is a right-handed pitcher who should be exploited by the Pirates today. Polanco has produced positive points in seven of his last eight games.

Mike Trout, Los Angeles Angels @ Los Angeles Dodgers and Mat Latos ($5,700)

This is a risky play for Trout’s price alone. I like his chances against Latos and his new team today to meet his value. If you went value in nearly every other position, Trout is the high-end play I would use today (Andrew McCutchen being the runner-up at $4,700 today).
