Daily Fantasy Baseball like real baseball has it’s swings of streaks. Currently I have been taking a breather aside from the days I am writing due to both time, and some struggles to cash consistently. I am thinking that today, focusing on the late slate only can help us all get back on track.
Since it is a split slate, this post is focusing on late games only. Let’s get back to our winning ways shall we?
As always I am not intending for folks to use every player I recommend as much as building around a few key cogs, or perhaps finding a value play or two and going from there. If you can build an entire lineup with my picks and it works, well done!
Stay tuned for updates on all things such as weather prior to first pitch tonight here. You should also monitor starting lineups, which thankfully are typically submitted well before the games. Many lineup sites also include weather forecasts as well.
If you are into player projections, lineup builders and other cool tools, you should be checking out rotoQL. I tend to use these on days when I am crunched for time, and I have to admit this tool is fast, easy and I look forward to seeing how it does. Just be aware and use some of the tools I provide you as usual with the weather and daily lineup cards.
Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Saturday, May 14th
A quick note: If I am only listing one player it is because they are essentially both a good value, and a top choice for me. Some positions and pricing haven’t quite balanced out yet on the Daily Fantasy Sites.
Starting Pitchers
Aaron Nola, Philadelphia Phillies vs Cincinnati Reds
Nola is looking the highly touted prospect he is supposed to be and today faces the softer hitting Reds team. I like his odds for a win and plenty of K’s today.
DraftKings: $9,500 FanDuel: $8,400
Tanner Roark, Washington Nationals vs Miami Marlins
Roark rounds out the pitching options who have been somewhat of a surprise and are pitching today. At the beginning of the season I would have laughed if I told myself I would be using Roark and Nola in a DFS slate, but here we are.
DraftKings: $9,900 FanDuel: $8,400
First Base
Lucas Duda, New york Mets @ Colorado Rockies (Butler)
DraftKings: $5,300 FanDuel: $3,800
Chris Carter, Milwaukee Brewers vs San Diego Padres (Perdomo)
Carter can strike out plenty and hurt you in your DFS lineups, but he can also crush a deep ball and this game has the potential for a moon shot. Perdomo certainly doesn’t strike fear in many.
DraftKings: $4,000 FanDuel: $3,100
Second Base
Robinson Cano, Seattle Mariners vs Los Angeles Angels (Chacin)
Cano is in a righty/lefty matchup, is a phenomenal player and isn’t even the most expensive player for tonight’s slate. The price alone helps me avoid my fave Daniel Murphy tonight.
DraftKings: $5,100 FanDuel: $4,100
Brandon Phillips, Cincinnati Reds @ Philadelphia Phillies (Nola)
I have done this before and I know it is a cardinal rule, but I am breaking it tonight again for value and potential alone. If you need a value play Phillips fits the bill.
DraftKings: $3,500 FanDuel: $2,900
Third Base
Nick Castellanos, Detroit Tigers @ Baltimore Orioles (Wright)
Castellanos has been surprisingly consistent this season. Tonight he faces the vulnerable Wright and isn’t too spendy compared to the elite options.
DraftKings: $4,400 FanDuel: $3,400
Nolan Arenado, Colorado Rockies vs New York Mets (Verrett)
Arenado at home or not really doesn’t matter, but hey he happens to be in Coors tonight against an unspectacular pitcher. At least for the Mets.
DraftKings: $5,500 FanDuel: $5,200
Shortstop
Ketel Marte, Seattle Mariners vs Los Angeles Angels (Chacin)
Marte has been the definition of heating up over the past few weeks and his price hasn’t climbed as quickly. This makes a great value play in a plus matchup tonight. He is the only shortstop I am playing tonight so I can afford my outfielders.
DraftKings: $3,800 FanDuel: $3,100
Outfielders
Adam Jones, Baltimore Orioles vs Detroit Tigers (Sanchez)
The Oriole’s stack flopped on Thursday but I am sticking to my guns with the hot Jones today in this matchup. Jones is averaging 15.4 FPPG over his last 5.
DraftKings: $4,100 FanDuel: $2,700
Lorenzo Cain, Kansas City Royals vs Atlanta Braves (Foltynewicz)
Cain is usually a safe play every night and tonight is no exception especially against the weaker Braves team and a young pitching prospect. Cain has also been averaging 16.2 FPPG over hsi last 5.
DraftKings: $4,400 FanDuel: $3,300
Ian Desmond, Texas Rangers vs Toronto Blue Jays (Estrada)
Desmond has looked like his all-star self this season and Estrada can be vulnerable if he gets off to a shaky start early.
DraftKings: $4,100 FanDuel: $3,700
