For the Week 3 Pitching Planner, I am trying to cut back some. I felt like I expounded too much when you really just want the facts in a post like this.
So with the Week 3 pitching planner, I am focused on giving you the information you need to plan your week while not keeping you on the page for 30 minutes. I’ll give you my commentary when necessary, but I really just want to get you the Week 3 pitching planner information in one, easy to read place.
For the Week 3 pitching planner (and I’m calling it Week 3, not Week 2 remember, I count the first 11 days as a single week) it was a bit easier to flesh out. Rotations and lineups are being more solidified.
So let’s get to the Week 3 pitching planner! For the Week 3 pitching planner, I will be using ownership percentages from ESPN and the information is up to date as of April 14th.
Week 3 Pitching Planner
2-Start Pitchers
Patrick Corbin, ARI vs. SF, vs. SD
I really love Corbin’s two matchups this week.
Mike Foltynewicz and Brandon McCarthy, ATL vs. PHI, vs. NYM
Did Foltynewicz finally figure it all out?
Andrew Cashner and Kevin Gausman, BAL @DET, vs. CLE
Brian Johnson, BOS vs. BAL, @OAK
David Price, BOS @LAA, @ OAK
There is some uncertainty regarding the Red Sox rotation, so keep an eye on the situation.
James Shields, CWS @OAK, vs. HOU
Luis Castillo, CIN @MIL, @STL
German Marquez, COL @PIT, CHC
Jordan Zimmerman, DET vs. BAL, vs. KC
Zimmerman should be back for his starts (somehow) after getting a ball to the face. He is a good streaming pick-up with the league-worst Royals lineup and only a 5.1% ownership.
Dallas Keuchel and Lance McCullers, HOU @SEA, @CWS
Danny Duffy and Ian Kennedy, KC @TOR, @DET
Tyler Skaggs, LAD vs. BOS, vs. SF
Hyun Jin Ryu, LAD @SD, vs. WAS
Caleb Smith, MIA @NYY, @MIL
Brent Suter, MIL vs. CIN, vs. MIA
Suter is a good streaming option with two great matchups and only 3.1% owned.
Kyle Gibson, MIN vs. CLE, @TB
Jacob deGrom and Zach Wheeler, NYM vs. WAS, @ATL
Masahiro Tanaka, NYY vs. MIA, vs. TOR
Daniel Mengden, OAK: vs. CWS, vs. BOS
Aaron Nola and Nick Pivetta, PHI @ATL, vs. PIT
A couple of harder matchups for Gabe Kapler’s hurlers.
Steven Brault and Trevor Williams, PIT vs. COL, @PHI
Luis Perdomo, SD vs. LAD, @ARI
James Paxton and Ariel Miranda, SEA vs. HOU, @TEX
Miranda is scheduled to get at least his first start of the year, and depending on how that goes, he could get a two-start week.
Adam Wainwright, STL @CHC, vs. CIN
Wainwright had a solid, quality start his last time out, and will have the struggling Reds this week with just a 7.2% ownership.
Martin Perez, TEX @TB, vs. SEA
Aaron Sanchez and Marco Estrada, TOR vs. KC, @NYY
Estrada can provide you an early-week streaming option (only 32.6% ownership) in some leagues.
A.J. Cole, WAS @NYM, @LAD
Good Matchups
Robbie Ray, ARI vs. SF
Ray has not been his best overall, but he still has 23 strikeouts in less than 16 innings and the Diamondbacks are 3-0 in his starts.
Chase Anderson, MIL vs. MIA
Lance Lynn, MIN at TB
Lynn has only given up six hits in his first two starts but walked 10 batters. I think he gets it under control against Tampa Bay this week.
Marcus Stroman, TOR vs. KC
Carlos Martinez, STL vs. CIN
The Reds have scored the fourth fewest runs in the league.
Bad Matchups
Rick Porcello is looking good through six. pic.twitter.com/JRgqMOxLk8
— SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) April 13, 2018
Rick Porcello, BOS at LAD
Porcello flirted with a no-hitter this past week, but will have a rough go against the scorching hot Angels lineup.
Garrett Richards, LAA vs. BOS
Richards has been using a ton of pitches (94 pitches in just 4.1 innings last outing) which will not work well against the streaking Red Sox.
Jake Arrieta, PHI vs. PIT
Arrieta was decent in his first start, but the Pirates have the second highest scoring offense in the league right now.
Streaming Options
Zach Davies, MIL vs. CIN (24.5% owned)
Davies’ ownership has fallen as his numbers have not been stellar. Jump on him this week and he not only gives you a great matchup, but also could be a long-term piece on your staff.
C.C. Sabathia, NYY vs. MIA (15.8% owned)
Sabathia should come off the DL for this start and gets the putrid Marlins’ offense.
Jake Odorizzi, MIN at TB (43.0% owned)
Odorizzi’s ownership is going up, so now is the time to jump on him.
The streaming options are a little light because there are some really good options for the two-start pitchers. That’s it for the Week 3 pitching planner! Check back next week to see if I had any gems!
