It is hard to believe that we are entering the middle of the season. It seems like just yesterday we were writing and reading draft prep articles and crushing mock drafts.
Now we sit here in the home stretch of the season heading toward the Fantasy playoffs. It’s time to set up our teams for the end game.
The Week 8 injury report has some good and bad news in it: Big Ben practices again, and Dez Bryant trying to make a comeback this week.
However, John Brown and Anquan Boldin are in a lurch. And what’s the status of Antonio Gates?
Dig into the Week 8 injury report and gain some insight into the likely dispensation of your players this week.
John Brown, WR
Brown was out of practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but returned to limited practice on Friday. This matches his progression from last week as well. Unfortunately you will need to see if he is active on Sunday.
Leonard Hankerson, WR
Hankerson is out this week.
Nick Williams, WR
Williams is the guy who could be first up to replace Hankerson in the lineup this week if he can make it to game time. Williams was limited on Wednesday, out on Thursday, and back to limited on Friday. I can’t see myself trusting him this week.
Steve Smith Sr, WR
Smith was limited on Thursday, but returned to full practice on Friday. I would expect to see him on the field this Sunday.
Mike Tolbert, RB
Tolbert was out of practice Thursday, but returned to full on Friday. Tolbert is playing on Monday night, so at this point I would say expect him to play if you are using him.
Nothing to report here.
Pretty clean practice report.
Josh McCown, QB
McCown was out of practice Wednesday. He has been a limited participant in both practices since then, so I would expect to see him on Sunday.
Duke Johnson Jr., RB
Johnson was out of practice on Wednesday, but has put in two full practices on Thursday and Friday. You should expect to have Johnson in your lineup on Sunday.
Andrew Hawkins, WR
Hawkins is not a Fantasy option I have on any of my teams, but if you do, he is out this week.
Joseph Randle, RB
Randle is out this week with an oblique injury. Get him out of your lineups.
Dez Bryant, WR
Bryant has been a limited participant in practice all week. He will be questionable and will be a game-time decision. It seems that even if he is active, he would have a limited amount of snaps.
Emmanuel Sanders, WR
Sanders has a shoulder injury that has hampered him. After a week of limited practices, Sanders is listed as probable for Sunday night. You should expect him in a big game for the Broncos.
Nothing to report.
Green Bay Packers
James Starks, RB
Starks was out of practice on Wednesday, and then limited on Thursday and Friday. He is listed as questionable for the Packers on Sunday night. Being limited coming off a bye doesn’t seem like the most positive of situations. I wouldn’t count on a big role or huge scoring from Starks this week.
Davante Adams, WR
Adams was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday. He returned to full practice and should probably suit up for the first time in weeks. If you have been holding on to him, he has a rough landing this week against a stout Denver defense.
Ty Montgomery, WR
Montgomery is listed as questionable for this week. The fact that he has not practiced at all this week leads to the idea that he will not play. I have removed him from any lineups I had him in, and I think you should too.
Cecil Shorts III, WR
Shorts is out for this week. Get him on your bench.
No skill players to discuss here.
Kansas City Chiefs
No negative information on any remaining players for the Chiefs.
Played Thursday Night
Adrian Peterson, RB
Peterson was out of practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but practiced in full on Friday. You should expect to see him taking full advantage of the Bears defense on Sunday.
New England Patriots
New Orleans Saints
Lots of health with the skill positions.
New York Giants
Victor Cruz, WR
At this point the day Cruz is ready to play will be monumental. I can’t imagine rostering him still. I never could. I don’t think he will be back, and he definitely won’t be this week.
Odell Beckham Jr., WR
Beckham has been a full participant in practice all week. I just had to include this for how excited I am for the possibilities.
New York Jets
Bilal Powell, RB
Powell is out this week.
Eric Decker, WR
Decker is questionable for this week against the Raiders. After missing practice on Wednesday, Decker has returned to practice on a limited basis on Thursday and Friday. I expect to see him on Sunday, but make sure to check the inactive lists.
No skill position players on the injury report.
Ben Roethlisberger, QB
Roethlisberger is set to return from his MCL sprain and bone bruise. The Steelers couldn’t get him back soon enough, and neither can Fantasy owners of all the Steelers players. Get them all in your lineups this week.
San Diego Chargers
Antonio Gates, TE
Gates has not practiced this week with his MCL sprain. It seems likely that he will be out this week as this is usually a multi-week injury.
No skill players to report on.
San Francisco 49ers
Carlos Hyde, RB
Hyde is out this week.
Anquan Boldin, WR
Boldin hurt his hamstring in practice on Thursday. It is never a good thing to have a mid-week injury. Friday did not leave me feeling encouraged with Boldin as he missed practice. At this point I would not expect to see him this week, but check the inactive list to be sure.
St. Louis Rams
Tre Mason, RB
Mason returned to full practice Friday. I would expect him to be active, but only in a small backup role.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Vincent Jackson, WR
Jackson has not practiced this week. He is listed as doubtful for this week, and I wouldn’t expect to see him active on Sunday.
Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE
Seferian-Jenkins has been limited in practice all week. If he can go, he could have a huge role in the Tampa Bay offense this week due to all their injuries. If he is active, play him.
Marcus Mariota, QB
Mariota is out this week.
Lots of big matchups this week in the NFL. Some huge players have returned, and some key stalwart players have some tenuous injury situations this week. I hope the Week 8 injury report has been a benefit to you as you plan. As always you will need to make sure that your players are active on Sunday morning. Good luck this week.
