Welcome to the Week 9 version of Daily Fantasy Football D/ST Value Plays.

Two of Fantasy’s top D/STs, Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks, are on a bye this week. So that leaves only a few elite Daily Fantasy Football defenses, Denver Broncos ($5,300) and St. Louis Rams ($5,100), in play for Week 9.

Although elite D/STs are obviously safer plays, the theme for most of the large tournament winners has been to punt D/ST and upgrade at other positions or to dig into the bargain bin and hit on an undervalued defense (Rams and Texans in Week 8).

Alternatively, you could opt to play an elite defense if you’re willing to pay the price, as their percentage owned is likely to be minimal. However, as the saying goes, there is more than one way to skin a cat. Winning large tournaments isn’t about spending every last dollar, but rather picking the right players. And if that means spending extra on an elite D/ST, spend away.

As I continue my hunt, and I assume you continue yours for that large DFS payoff, let’s jump into some Daily Fantasy Football defensive value plays for Week 9 that could thrust us into big money.

Week 9 Daily Fantasy Football

3 DFS Value Plays at D/ST

New England Patriots vs. Washington Redskins ($4,900)

The Patriots continue to steamroll through their schedule and the lowly Redskins and Kirk Cousins aren’t likely to present much of a challenge. Cousins continues to throw errant passes for interceptions, as the Redskins offense ranks 25th in the NFL, averaging just 340 yards a game. The Patriots defense has done a better job at getting after the quarterback of late, tallying 10 sacks over the past three games. The recipe for dominating is simple: get a big lead and attack Cousins. And, oh by the way, they’re playing in Foxborough. If you want a sure bet, the Pats fit the bill.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys ($4,700)

The Eagles D/ST is perhaps my favorite Daily Fantasy Football play for Week 9. The price isn’t spectacular but it’s more than fair considering their matchup against the Cowboys – or better said, Matt Cassel, Brandon Weeden or Kellen Moore. The Eagles are coming off their bye week and have had two weeks to prepare for the immensely talented trio of back-up QBs in Dallas (sarcasm). The Cowboys are also losers of five straight games and seem to be spinning their wheels without Tony Romo. The Eagles are a good defensive team and very strong against the run. Forcing the Cowboys into a one-dimensional offense and getting after the quarterback should be fish in a barrel for the Eagles in Week 9. Plug the Birds in your Daily Fantasy Football lineup and sleep like a baby.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. New York Giants ($4,000)

The Bucs are priced at the absolute minimum value at just $4,000 for Week 9. Understandably, their defense isn’t great, but they do a solid job of getting after the quarterback (eight sacks over the past three games) and are surprisingly giving up just 244 passing yards per contest, good for 14th in the league. The Giants offense, who ranks 27th in the league in rushing at just 94 yards a game, struggles to run the ball, forcing them to become a pass-heavy offense. Eli Manning has averaged 39 pass attempts over the past four games, potentially playing into the strength of an improving Bucs defense. If the Bucs can continue to get after the quarterback and capitalize on home-field advantage, you could get a solid Fantasy day out of this rock-bottom value play.

Good luck in Week 9 and let our Daily Fantasy Football Value Plays help you build that million-dollar lineup. And in the event that you win, we take donations.
